What to wear to a summer wedding - in collaboration with ASOS

Ding Dong, Ding Dong... Wedding season is upon us, the invitations are rolling in, and if you have one coming up in the next few weeks; this post might be just the thing you need. Dressing for a special occasion is tricky in itself, but add the pressure of the fact it's during a potentially hot summer, you might be struggling to get the perfect look.

This is where I come in, always on hand to help you out...how nice am I? Ahaha but seriously, I understand how tricky it is to dress for a summer wedding, especially if it's a destination wedding.

There are a few things to take into account when dressing for a summer wedding. The heat, being the number one factor. Now, if you're anything like me, you might struggle with wearing overly synthetic fabrics when it's hot. I hate how hot and sweaty they can make you feel - gross!

Fabric type is key!

My number one tip would be to make sure you find a dress where the fabric is something light, airy and where possible, natural (such as linen or silk). This can be tricky as a lot of the more budget occasion wear options tend to be made out of synthetic fabrics, so my tip is to go for a dress that is either floaty or made from a lightweight material.

Recycle your dress

If you're heading to a few weddings this summer, you might want to think about recycling one dress. Weddings are expensive, right? A few summers ago, I had three weddings during the summer and boy can the costs add up! A printed maxi dress is the perfect option if you want to recycle your look. You can wear it with heels, glam earrings and a box clutch for a more formal wedding and then if you have a more relaxed one coming up, swap the heels for an embellished pair of sandals and you're good to go!

Comfy footwear is a must!

You've found the dress, but now it's time to get the footwear sorted. The key thing here is the comfort. No one likes a hot, swollen pair of feet, so make sure you pick the correct fitting footwear for your feet. Try a wider fit if you struggle with standard sizing, think about opting for real leather instead of synthetic (helps with the rubbing) and think about investing in a slightly more expensive pair that you can re-wear. Opting for a lower, chunky heel is always a good idea, and I love wearing a closed, pointy toe heel - saves you from having to spend money on a pedicure!

Suits You, Sir.

Gone are the days when all you could wear to a wedding was a dress and a fascinator - thank god! Mix things up a bit and try out a suit! Suits are perfect for a more casual wedding, and jumpsuits are also a great option. I love wearing jumpsuits for special occasions, and I love the fact it's always a great conversation starter. Stand out from the sea of dresses and opt for something a little different.
My top tip is to dress your summer suit up with a silky strappy top underneath and a classy clutch bag.

Summer Accessories

Box clutches are perfect for a wedding. I especially love an embellished clutch bag, when you have opted for a more minimal look. Go for a statement bag if you want to jazz up your look! Changing your accessories is the easiest way to switch up a look if you are recycling your dress. Changing your shoes or your handbag is often cheaper than buying an entirely new dress.

You can't go wrong with a statement earring, and they are the easiest way to accessorise your summer wedding look. My top tip is to pick a colour out of your dress and try to a find an earring that matches.

Spotty Dotty

Wedding season is underway and I had the pleasure of attending one last weekend. My friend's Hev and Chris tied the knot in a lovely venue and it was so nice to meet up with some friends I've not seen in years!

Picking an outfit for an occasion like a wedding can sometimes be tricky because you have all these rules you're meant to follow and as we all know; rules are restrictive! One of the "rules" you should supposedly follow as a wedding guest is that you shouldn't wear black. Following rules is never fun so when I spotted this black mesh dress I knew I had to try it for this wedding.

I think the fact the dress is broken up with a white print and pleats and the fact I styled it with light accessories means that even though this was a summer wedding; the outfit doesn't look too dark and dreary.

Wedding Bells

Wedding season is upon us and normally when invited to such events; I make sure I have an outfit ready weeks and weeks before. George, who you will know from Fuller Figure Fuller Bust invited me to her wedding and I kid you not, I didn't have an outfit sorted until the day before! Talk about cutting it fine!

Linea at House of Fraser came to the rescue because during one of my last ditch attempts to find a dress; I stumbled upon this lovely floral dress. I went with my usual size and you can imagine the joy when I put it on and it fit perfectly. The dress has no stretch to it and is a thick cotton so bare that in mind if you fancy ordering it (the dress currently seems to be out of stock in a lot of sizes but keep checking back).

Callie took these lovely outfit shots for me at the end of the day and I did notice that by the afternoon the dress had lost a bit of it's shape but no one else would have noticed; I'm just fussy about those sorts of things.

Due to only recieving the dress the day before the wedding I was limited to what accessories I could use but I am glad that I already had items that matched the dress well. I went with my old New Look blue heels, old ASOS suede clutch and old Topshop bangle.

George's wedding was so, so beautiful. George and Robbie put so much effort into the day and you could tell, it was a seamless affair and I can't get over how beautiful the venue was. George looked stunning, as did my blogger babes Callie and Bethany and to George and Robbie; I wish you a life long marriage filled with love, good health and happiness!

The final wedding of the summer

I have attended three weddings this summer - all three have been amazing and all three have created so many memories that I will cherish forever. My friends Elaine and Sean got married in Ramsgate and it was the perfect day. The weather was phenomenal and the sun shone all day. The ceremony was outside, by the sea and it was lovely to share the day with the couple and so many of my friends.

I wore bright colours to the previous weddings but wanted to wear something a little different for this one. I chose a predominantly black dress from ASOS Curve and I'm sad to say it doesn't seem to be online anymore. Keep checking though. They do have a lovely green version left or a multi version available here, but only in a few sizes. The oatmeal coloured pleats turn this LBD into something a little more exciting and the fitted top half and swing bottom meant that I was comfortable all day. I didn't have to worry about a vpl or the dress being too tight or my bra straps showing. I just put it on at the start of the day and still felt amazing come 2am! In regards to the sizing of this dress, I went with my normal size and it was spot on and I also like that it came to below the knee (slightly longer at the back)

Once I had chosen my dress, the accessories were easy to find. I wore my art deco necklace from Galibardy, a 3D floral clutch from ASOS which sadly isn't available any more and my wide fit New Look heels. The huge bangle is from Liberty but it's a very old purchase I'm afraid.

Here are some outfit pics and a few shots from the day.

Wedding time

I have been so fortunate this summer and have had the chance to attend some beautiful weddings. Last weekend one of my closest friends, Lauren married her lovely man, Scott and I was honoured to be there to share it with them. They both looked absolutely incredible and cried on a number of occasions - you can see how happy they make each other and that fills my heart till bursting point!

The outfit I wore came together over a few weeks and I'm officially in love with the dress. I've featured it here on the blog a few times and I felt really special in it. I sized up by one size due to the dress not having any stretch. It is roomy all over though and is a good length. Under the dress I wore a Curvy Kate bra called Princess (in nude) and it kept everything in place all day and it was really comfy. I wore these wide fit heels to a previous wedding (in black) and they were SO comfy I bought them in this light blue colour and they matched perfectly with the dress. I've just noticed they do them in silver so I will definitely be getting those as well! The comfiest high heels I have ever worn - I swear to you! The necklace is from my fave brand Galibardy but it broke after a few hours but luckily my friend fixed it so it was still wearable. You can see from the pics that one of the flowers is hanging off :(
The clutch bag was a sale purchase from New Look a few months back and it was big enough to fit all my crap in it!

Here are a few snaps to show my outfit and makeup, what do you think of the outfit? Would you wear something like this to a wedding?
