Stuck in a rut

Sometimes in the world of blogging you hit a bit of a brick wall. Fashion is something that is very important to me and expressing myself through the clothes I wear is something that excites me. I normally love nothing more than outfit planning, scouring the internet or the shops for my latest purchase or raiding my wardrobe and piecing outfits together. This is all very well and good when you feel inspired but what happens when your fashion boner droops as it were!

I'm a fashion blogger, I'm meant to constantly churn out outfit after outfit and it's my 'job' to help inspire others and to help build body confidence by showing you guys that no matter your size or shape; there are fabulous clothes out there dying to be worn.

Now, even though I have a wardrobe/three and cupboards over flowing with clothes and accessories; I've lost my mojo a little recently. I keep going to my wardrobe and suddenly my ability to put garments together has disappeared and I keep wearing the same dresses, rotating them one after the other. Where has my outfit mojo gone?!

One piece of advice I always give to people is that when they have a drop in self confidence or they need reminding of how good they looked previously or they are feeling uninspired by fashion; they should turn to old photos/ their Instagram or their Facebook and have a scroll through their feeds. If you're anything like me, you will have a few heaps of selfies stashed away or ootd pics and to remind myself that I can actually dress myself; I decided to have a look back at the outfits I have worn so far this year.

This was actually quite a therapeutic post to do and has shown me that I love to experiment and that I am sure my mojo will come back soon enough... fingers crossed ey, I'm getting a little bored of wearing the same dress, styled the same way.

Anybody else get stuck in a fashion rut sometimes? How do you get yourself out of it?

  1. Since your readers aren't all fashion bloggers, maybe seeing how you wear the same rotation of dresses but styled differently might be useful to us/them? One item worn three ways is a classic fashion blogger post, and it might help get you out of your rut if it forces you to see your overflowing wardrobe in a new light while allowing you to embrace the fact that you're getting a lot of wear out of certain pieces :)

    1. Good idea! I regularly wear the same items over and over because I am not rolling in it money wise. I only wear things on my blog I would wear in real life so I tend to wear the same things each week and I am normally ok with this but at the moment; even my go to fave dresses are not inspiring me! I mentioned recently I would try a 'one item styled three ways' kind of post so I will definitely be giving this a go! Thanks for your comment xx

  2. Danielle I can completely relate and for some reason I have been having similar issues this year. One thing when I do have a random inspired moment is I try to seize it and crank out as many looks as possible because I know I probably won't be feeling the same way the next day (even if it's 11 at night or some other strange time.) lately I have been trying to get out of the rut by finding new brands/labels that I haven't seen before that give me new ideas on how to where/combine things. Anyway when you do find your mojo please share your secrets because we all struggle with that big time. You are fabulous and thanks for always inspiring us all!!

    1. Hey girl, hey!
I totally agree with you on trying to crank out as many outfits at one time, as possible. I regularly do this due to my Fibromyalgia as I am regularly too unwell to make an effort so when I do feel ok; I try to shoot 3/4 looks. Good idea about looking to new brands, I think that would definitely help as I seem to just be relying on the same sites like ASOS at the mo! I am glad I am not the only one who struggles with this! There can be a lot of pressure on us bloggers to always bang out outfit after outfit!! Thank you for taking the time to comment on my post babe xx

  3. I could not agree more, past month I have been in a rut wearing 4-5 dresses I feel 'comfortable' in, yet I still keep continuing buying clothes and just leaving them in the wardrobe with the tags on. Now spring is coming however it brightens your mood and makes you look at clothes differently again. Thanks for this post, thought I was the only one! Amy xxx

    1. I keep doing that as well! Buying stuff and then leaving it for months and months! Lets hope a new influx of clothes online will at least inspire me to make some exciting outfits out of my existing wardrobe! x

  4. I am having the SAME THING! Constantly just turning to a favourite black top and jeans, despite the spring weather finally starting to shine again. I'm hoping a few sneaky shoes, necklaces and perhaps a nicely coloured light Spring coat will help inject a bit of sparkle back into my outfit game! Also, that black jumpsuit looks HAWWWT!

  6. Hi Dani(elle)! First time I've commented here...just wanted to say the reason your blog is one of my favourites is because your style is so diverse - you don't seem to stick within one kind of look like a lot of bloggers, there seem to literally be no bounds to the different looks you try, and I love that. You seem to wear things that you love regardless of whether they're smart, casual, sporty, high fashion-esque, street style, polished, 60s, 70s, 80s, 50s etc and that's awesome :-). Makes sense that sometimes you're going to have style burnout so to speak and just not really feel it some days...your honesty about this is just as inspiring and great as your best outfits :-)
